Students loved reading Todd Parr's book entitled The Thankful Book! It is colorful, funny and thoughtful. After reading the book, we began to wonder if we could make our own Thankful Book using the digital tools that we have?
To begin with, students each created two pages (a text page & an illustration page) using SketchbookX, a free graphic art iPad app. This is the first time I have used this app with students and it is my new favorite art app! It has many graphics tools that are typically available in more expensive web apps, while still being simple enough that it doesn't require a degree in graphic design! It gives the user an opportunity to create art in layers, a graphic design feature that I am excited for my students to experience.
Once students created their pages, they added them to a shared Google presentation document.
Finally, I downloaded their presentation as a .pdf. I uploaded the .pdf to FlipSnack, an online ebook creation tool. FlipSnack is a paid tool, one of only a few that I pay for every year because if is so easy to use! Students create the pages of the book, and with a click of a few buttons, we have a class eBook! Along with all of the things we are thankful for, we are also thankful for our digital tools!
